Pit Stop in Cavtat

Our flight to Greece departed from Dubrovnik airport so we stayed in Cavtat the night before, which is about thirty minutes south. We had no desire to go back into the madness of Dubrovnik. In fact if we had known what a little gem Cavtat was we wouldn’t have stayed in Dubrovnik the first time round, but rather booked a place here and done a day trip in. This place was super quiet, with no cars permitted into the core. There were also plenty of places to bask in the sun and go for a swim.

Our adventure from Kotor to Cavtat started at the bus station as we watched the bus departing before ours pull away with the back luggage door wide open. luckily someone working there also noticed and ran down the road after it. Fortunately our bags made it to our stop. Our stop being the side of the road on the outskirts of Cavtat. While passing through one of two passport stops (where everyone gets off, cues up, has their passport stamped, walks a few feet down the road and then gets back on the bus) Andre had negotiated with the driver to have us dropped off before the actual end point so that we didn’t have to backtrack 30 minutes to our accommodation. For 10 Euros it was a done deal. Although he barely came to a full stop as we got off. I get it, he has a schedule to keep but it’s hard to tuck and roll with such a big pack (which he had pulled out from under the bus and put right by the front doors during our passport checks – all business).

After getting off the bus we were back in the EU and so our Orange SIM cards should have worked, but we quickly found we had no service. We knew the buses came down this main stretch and so did taxis but since Uber was a fraction of the cost we were hoping to book one. After a short walk we were able to connect to the Bolt app (their Uber equivalent) and got a ride. Little did we know at the time that it would only take us part way because as I mentioned there were no cars allowed into to town center where we were staying. It was only about a 10 minute walk though so not bad.

As we walked through the town we saw a few little quickie mart type shops where we could grab some supplies. Open Non-Stop. I forgot about these signs. I love the Croatian Non-Stop signs letting you know they are open 24/7. 

Anyway, for those of you who may be interested in visiting Dubrovnik, do yourself a favor and stay in Cavtat and just do a day trip. It was such a beautiful and peaceful space with a stunning coastal walk. We sat on one of many benches to watch the sunset, and we even saw Santa! A touch early, but I like his enthusiasm.
